Breezing Into Blooms - 10

And at this time have gotten this far... and still using the crow quill nib, as the others make too large dotting...

Breezing Into Blooms - 9

This is how it begins to look, working my way down from the top and back towards the front and lower, a sort of sand/dirt clodding that obscures anything behind, and leaves enough to have the water drops stand out more in their reflecting glory...

 as is being seen here...

 And all the way here...

Themes and Backgrounds...

Most artists, whatever their medium, tend, when they focus on doing one or two objects, focus just on those, such that when it comes time to consider a background - lo and behold, it is as if that just appeared, and they often flounder in figuring out what to use for one...   pen and ink artists, in general, do not fall into this as much, because they have to forethink so much of their composition...  still, there are times when perhaps not so much a lack of the background as in deciding what had been originally chosen was not the best to use, there arises the need of thinking out what, then, to use in place and how to go about deciding...   it is not a trivial matter, for much the same reason as any of the rest of the rendering - once the ink is down, it is down, and virtually immovable, so it'd be wise to know full-well what is to be done with this background...  and the usual also of how much emphasis is to be there in the background...   in the case of "Breezing Into Blooms", the original sketch revealed the idea of a rock much as a slab set - but it quickly seemed contrived, so another was considered - in this case, something more in tune with the scene to be displayed in the water drops landscape, namely the desert being transformed into a vegetative delight...  thus will be seen a sort of pile of clods of hardened dirt or comboed with sand...   this serves the primary function of setting all in a grounding, plus, as was the case with one drop seen in front of the pipe, background cover allowing reflection of the outer globularity instead of the inner [as was the case with "Clear In The Air"]...   there are, of course, other possibilities, but this seems the best at hand [others later thought of can then be used in future ones of this now series]...

Breezing Into Blooms - 8

With the pump now done, attention can be with the rocks as background, which besides setting the pump into an arena, also puts a reflective stance behind the drops [as seen with the one in front of the pipe] and thus will see the scene upright that will be rendered in color in the drops themselves...

Breezing Into Blooms - 7

The pump is now beginning to take real shape, and as soon as the pipe is done, the background rocks will commence, and then the rest of the spaces for the drops will be more clearly seen...

...and the coloring of the landscape within the drops will come into being...

Breezing Into Blooms - 6

Had hoped to get the handle done as well, but it took a wee longer on the rest...  so will go for that tomorrow and then be on the pipe sections...

 As seen here...

And note how the shifting between the coarse texturing of the handle rod to the handle proper, where a more grippable kind now prevails...

Breezing Into Blooms - 5

The pump and sluice now done, the handle and rod are next...  and as a change of pace, may use a different, tho fine point, nib - especially about the hand part, to better illusion  the idea of grip traction...

Breezing Into Blooms - 4

Now, having gotten the shading part more or less down, the 'hard' part remains - to do the section of light, where the tip of the nib is barely touching the canvas to leave the tiniest of dots, and to do this the whole of the section now seen as white...  after that, then seeing it blended into the rest is a small matter of going over again and again until seen as fit...  there are more in details as well to do, but they'll wait until the basic curving is achieved...

I thought it would be of interest to show the size of the stippling, using a ruler, so you could see how fine the dotting is - and that its irregularity is due to impatience in the stippling [going too fast for fine care of uniformity in the dots]...

Breezing Into Blooms - 3

Working my way slowly down, am laying in some irregularity on the pump side...  as for the dark area, am doing a short-cut of sorts, using short lines criss-crossing the area, then going back to the stippling to get the grading into light...  this, like the other pump, is a homemade device, so there are sections of different metals and smoothness - to fit with the do-it-yourself idea...

Breezing Into Blooms - 2

Working my way down, adding some detailing as I make my way...   the deep dark shade on the right will be extended some but when get all the rest down, so to more smoothly make the curving differences...

Breezing Into Blooms

And the act of creation has begun...   am using a crow quill nib and FW black ink for this, intending to be stippling with this all the way thru - in order to avail myself of the various details, whenever they should be desired, such as rust spots, indentations, bumps and other corrosive effects, and paint peelings should that be of use for the showing of a very weathered look....

Got more done today, and am on the pump part now...

Theme/Titles and Themes...

When I first made mention of a sequel of sorts regarding "Clear In The Air", it was referencing a then theme/title called "Leaking to Completion"...  on reflection, the notion has been revised to being "Breezing Into Blooms"...   why the change, and what is the difference?  for one, there is an immense difference between 'leaking' and 'breezing' - one refers to an incompleteness that by happenstance becomes complete [that is, not by design but by chance]...   the other refers to being blown - but in more than two ways [one without much effort - or one with a directiveness with or without regards to time limitations - or both - or other, leaving this as an exercise in figuring out other possibilities]...  "Breezes and Developments" could also apply as a theme/title to this sequel...

So - what would be the best, and why?

Perhaps it, then, would be best to actually see something of what is to be considered as this sequel - for sure it would help in seeing which of the various theme/titles would best fit in terms of the visualization itself, as mere written descriptions can mentally derive a host of diverse images in mind -

The background is for now just a positing, and will be altered after the rest is down....  the landscape scenes will be shown when the ink rendering is done...   for now, this will do for the present discussion of theme/titling...

To indicate some of the differences, consider, as said, of the issue of 'leaking' - in thinking more on this, another variation, or sequel to this series, came to mind, "Leaking Blossoms", which shows a horizontal pipe with several holes, and almost continual drippings coming from them, making a waterfall as such, with the drop reflecting a flower garden in bloom [again, the reflecting being what is in color]...  and, as such, this will be the next on this growing series - which expresses yet another comment made a short time ago, namely that creativity, when left open to themes and their variations, continues to put out new ones which even if at first glance be trite in the personal referencing becomes as much a new work with fresh grasping as any new rendering can...

"Breezing into Blooms", then, shows more a naturalness in utilizing the wind, as opposed to the happenstance of neglect [which is not be disregarded, but rather relegated to a lesser importance in the scheme of things regarding this composition - emphasis on the positive of a growing from the desert to the fullness of vegetative and human development]...

Now, at first glance, one might wonder what is positive of the preceding theme/titling which does have 'leaking' in it...  it is namely that the consequence is in the blossoms, seeing the visualization reflected from an otherwise offstage of an enjoyable positive of vibrant life - cultivated life at that, which as such is a reflection of the human...

As for 'completion', it is now being considered for yet another rendering, sort of a between "Clear ..." and "Breezing..."   - namely "Dropping to Completion", which shows a drop just after hitting a rock below and splitting into two drops [the drops, of course, showing a 'before' and 'after' of a view]...
